UNE on the opening day of the 75th Anniversary of the LCOE laboratory in Congress

21/06/2024

On Friday 21 June, the President of the Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, Alfredo Berges, took part in the conference "Electricity: driving force for Sustainable Development", which took place in the Congress of Deputies, kicking off the various commemorative events for the 75th Anniversary of the Laboratorio Central Oficial de Electrotecnia (LCOE) that will take place throughout 2024.

The President of UNE highlighted the important role of the Spanish standards body and standards as drivers of industrial safety and underlined how standardisation is a fundamental activity for the testing, measurement and calibration services provided by LCOE, as these are based on UNE standards.

He also pointed out that standards are a strong support for public administrations in the enforcement of legislation and the development of industrial safety regulations, as well as for effective market surveillance, as highlighted by UNE's Market Surveillance Observatory, a successful model of public-private collaboration.

The Laboratorio Central Oficial de Electrotecnia (LCOE) was created in 1949. Since then, it has been providing testing, measurement, calibration and general R&D&I support services to both industry and government bodies, playing an important role in the infrastructure of industrial development and in the drafting of various electrotechnical regulations.

LCOE is part of the Foundation for the Promotion of Industrial Innovation (F2I2), a member of UNE, which leads the development of key standards for industrial safety in Spain and is represented on its Board of Directors.

LCOE participates in numerous Technical Standardisation Committees, working in fields ranging from power transmission and distribution, to electromagnetic compatibility, power capacitors, luminaires and lamps, and associated equipment.

The event was organised by the Foundation for the Promotion of Industrial Innovation (F2I2), together with the Institute of Science for the Environment, Energy and Industry (ICMEI) of the Association of Former Deputies and Senators of the Spanish Parliament.
