Technical standards respond to the challenges of the Spanish civil shipbuilding industry. For example, in the last four years alone, 80 UNE Spanish standards improving shipyard competitiveness have been published by the CTN 27.
27 September 2018. The Spanish Association for Standardization (UNE), has published a report highlighting the outstanding contribution of technical standards to the challenges and needs of the Spanish civil shipbuilding industry, coinciding with the World Maritime Day.
For example, in the last four years alone, 80 UNE Spanish standards to improve shipyard competitiveness have been published by the Technical Committee for Standardization (CTN), specifically Standard 27 - "Naval construction and repair industry, artefacts and marine technology", according to the Report Update on standardisation in the shipbuilding sector.
This Report describes the standardisation work carried out by this Committee, its members, the benefits of standardisation and how one can participate in the development of standards.
CTN 27 is responsible for standardising the field of shipyard design, processes and products, equipment manufacturers and auxiliary industry used in shipbuilding, maintenance and repair of ships, vessels and floating or stationary marine artefacts, both in coastal and offshore waters. Overall, it has published nearly 500 standards. Issues related to pollution, the marine environment in matters regarding shipbuilding and repair, including the design of ships and equipment, cleaning processes in shipyards and the recycling of ships at the end of their service life are also included.
The standards are drafted by UNE's CTN, with the participation of all the parties involved and following a consensus.
