Madrid, 18 July 2025 – Coordinated by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, the annual meeting of the Spanish quality infrastructure institutions was held between the Spanish Metrology Centre (CEM), the National Accreditation Entity (ENAC) and the Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, with the aim of tackling new projects to promote this infrastructure.
The meeting addressed progress on the tasks defined in the collaboration protocol signed in 2023 in the presence of the Ministry of Industry and Tourism. Highlights included visibility and dissemination efforts to ensure that the Quality Infrastructure continues to be the driving force behind economic development, the business community, and product safety. En este sentido, se subrayó la creación de una nueva sección de noticias de actualidad en la web “Infraestructura de la calidad española".
In addition, focus was placed on actions for the coming months, which will further strengthen the promotion of quality infrastructure to support the deployment of the Spanish Artificial Intelligence Strategy.
In addition, materials will be developed to help all stakeholders to take advantage of the tools that the quality infrastructure makes available to them to be more competitive and innovative, while facilitating regulatory compliance.
Work is also underway on revising the "Guide to the Use of Standards and Accreditation in Public Procurement" and on training packages to assist public administrations working in this area.
The meeting examined the recently published report "The economic impact of standardisation in Spain," prepared by the Centre for Industrial Strategy and Prospective Studies (CEPI), an entity promoted by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism and the EOI Foundation. The study reveals that standardisation contributes 14.7% to Spain's average annual GDP growth, which translates into a contribution of more than €140 billion over the last four decades, placing Spain on a par with the world's most advanced countries.
Attending the meeting were Javier García, Director General of UNE and Vice-President of ISO; José Manuel Prieto, Deputy Director of Security and Industrial Quality of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism; José Ángel Robles, Director of CEM; Beatriz Rivera, Director General of ENAC; Paloma García, Director of Standardization Programmes and Stakeholder Engagement at UNE; and Mónica Sanzo, Director of International Cooperation and Relations at UNE.
