The UNE Standard on Social and Occupational Compliance, a guarantee of good practices in business, has now been published

27/07/2023

The Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, has published Standard UNE 19604 Social and Occupational Compliance management systems. Requirements with a guidance document will help to ensure a stable and safe working environment; as well as improve good practices in workplace governance.

This Standard lays out the requirements and recommendations for implementing an effective socio-occupational compliance management system in all types of organizations, regardless of their size, nature or activity. The standard is certifiable by an independent third party, and organizations with a certified socio-occupational compliance management system in place will be able to improve their reputation and image in the business sector.

The standard applies to all areas of social and occupational relations, except for occupational risk prevention, given that this type of risk is considered to be covered by other standards.

The UNE Standard 19604 was developed by the Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE, with the support of Lefebvre and other parties (law firms, consultancies, universities, syndicates, professional and labour associations).

Its transformation into a standard with a broader consensus than the national scope, such as the ISO international scope or the European CEN, is the major challenge facing it, and the Spanish standard could be a future benchmark to achieve this objective.
