In the Global Standards Cooperation meeting held recently in Geneva, the Deputy Managing Director of the World Trade Organization, Alan Wolff, analysed what international standardisation organisations can do to support the growth of the world trade system.
During his speech he suggested different action lines, including an improvement in the consistency between international standards. He also emphasised the need to spread the message that "an integrated global economy, with a solid multilateral and dynamic trading system backed by international standards, represents a better world for everyone".
