International Day of Persons with Disabilities

El 3 de diciembre se conmemora el Día Internacional de Personas con Discapacidad. Seven billion people in the world suffer from some form of disability, and the International Organization for Standardization, ISO, aims to raise awareness about the importance of developing standards to achieve the inclusion of disabled people. Many of the ISO international standards are key tools for achieving these objectives, and there are many more under development.

As a result of the outstanding development of standardisation, people with a temporary or permanent disability can find in these standards effective answers to their real needs.

The UNE catalogue currently lists around 75 standards and draft standards that establish accessibility requirements in numerous fields: universal accessibility and design for all, building and town planning, smart cities, tourism, website contents, audiovisual content, support products, personal autonomy and dependency and ICT for healthcare, among others.

In relation to deaf people, some of the specific standards include UNE 153010, which sets the subtitling requirements for deaf people and the hard of hearing, and UNE 153020 regarding audio description.
