The Technical Committee CEN-CLC/JTC 20 "Hyperloop systems" of the European standardisation bodies CEN and CENELEC, created at the proposal of Spain, recently published the first regulatory document to promote the Hyperloop: CEN/CLC/TR 17912 "Hyperloop Systems - Inventory of standards and roadmap".
This document sets out the most relevant existing legislative standards that could be reused or adapted according to the needs of Hyperloop technologies. The aim is to identify which of these could be of potential use.
The Working Group that prepared the report is under Spanish leadership, in which UNE acts as secretariat. It is also a valuable tool for both the European transport industry and the European legislative and regulatory authorities.
The Committee is preparing a roadmap for the project with an inventory of new standards to be developed for which a need has been detected. The roadmap will also outline the steps to be taken for developing the necessary Hyperloop standards.
With this initiative, CEN and CENELEC have once again demonstrated their commitment to developing innovative solutions for Europe's transport infrastructure, while confirming their status as the key European reference for standardisation in the transport sector.
The Hyperloop is a means of transport for large volumes of passengers and cargo. It is based on new or emerging technologies such as low-pressure environment or magnetic levitation, which allows it to travel at very high speeds while protected from adverse weather conditions.
