FAQ - protective masks in accordance with Specifications UNE 0064-1;-2 and UNE 0065

​If I manufacture single-use protective masks with the five layers of material required by the UNE Specification, do I have to get them tested?

• No, if the non-reusable protective masks are made with the combination of materials indicated in the UNE 0064 Specifications, it is not necessary to carry out tests, as the required acceptance criteria will be met.
  

• The proposed five-layer combination of materials is a combination that was tested at the time and that comfortably met the acceptance criteria cited in the specification (see AITEX document on the MINCOTUR page). However, it must be borne in mind that the characteristics of materials may vary somewhat depending on the manufacturer, the manufacturing processes, the quality of the raw material, etc. Futhermore, it should be taken into account that these variations can exist in the material depending on the manufacturer, and that if the test is repeated, it must comply with the acceptance criteria set out in the specification.

Can I use other materials or combinations of those listed in the UNE Specification for protective masks?

• Yes, changes in materials or in design are the responsibility of the manufacturer, but they must be tested according to the specified tests and must demonstrate compliance with the acceptance criteria indicated in the corresponding UNE Specification, as well as the other requirements thereof.
  

Can I use a different type of confection method to the one specified in the UNE Specifications?

What sort of branding should the face mask have?

• The mask must be clearly and permanently branded on the smallest commercially available packaging, or branding must be visible and legible through the packaging if it is transparent. Similarly, in the case of online sales, this information must also be displayed on the website.

Would it be correct to assume that face masks that comply with another Specification or standard for reusable protective face masks also comply with the UNE 0065 Specification?

• No, the testing methods applicable under other specifications or standards and those of Specification UNE 0065 are not the same, so in order to compare them and see if they offer the same level of protection, a comparison must be made between the tests and the results duly correlated.
